    Governor Polis Congratulates Major General Laura Clellan on Retirement

    DENVER - Today, Governor Polis announced the retirement of Major General Laura Clellan, The Adjutant General of Colorado and Executive Director of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, a member of the Governor’s Executive Cabinet. General Clellan’s retirement ceremony is October 18, 2025.

    Governor Polis Mobilizes National Guard to Support Fire Response Efforts for the Elk Fire and Lee Fire

    MEEKER - This evening, Governor Polis authorized the mobilization of the Colorado National Guard to support fire response efforts for the Elk Fire in Rio Blanco County, Southeast of Meeker, Colorado and for the Lee Fire, Southwest of Meeker. The authorization is intended to provide the state authority to utilize National Guard assets to support fire suppression efforts should they be necessary.

    Governor Polis Calls Special Session to Address Budget Hole Created by Federal Bill

    DENVER - Today, after carefully evaluating the negative impacts of the federal government’s budget-busting bill, H.R.1, Governor Polis is calling the General Assembly back into session to address the significant impact this has on Colorado’s budget. The special session will begin on August 21, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Governor Polis was joined by Office of State Planning and Budgeting Director Mark Ferrandino.

    Governor Polis Updates Verbal Disaster Emergency for Elk Fire to Include Lee Fire

    MEEKER - Over the weekend, Governor Polis verbally declared a disaster emergency to support response efforts for the Elk Fire in Rio Blanco County, Southeast of Meeker, Colorado. Yesterday, he updated that disaster emergency to also include the Lee Fire, which prior to the evening of the 4th, had only been burning on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land, Southwest of Meeker. This updated designation went into effect at 12:01 AM on August 5.

    Governor Polis Verbally Declares Disaster Emergency for LeRoux Fire

    DELTA COUNTY - Governor Polis verbally declared a disaster emergency to support response efforts for the LeRoux Fire in Delta County. This order takes effect at 12:01am on Tuesday, August 5. The Sheriff has requested State responsibility as the fire has grown beyond local capability and capacity. The order provides for additional, external resources and State support to more effectively manage and suppress the fire, and protect the values at risk.

    Governor Polis Statement on Federal Approval of Colorado’s SNAP Waiver to Support Healthy Eating

    DENVER - On May 13, 2025, Colorado submitted waiver requests to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) designed to increase healthier food consumption and maximize the buying power of benefits as part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Today, a portion of Colorado’s SNAP waiver was approved, exempting soda and sugary beverages from benefits. Colorado has two benefit enhancements pending approval, including an expansion of access to prepared foods and farmer’s market foods.

    BROOMFIELD – Today, Governor Polis and the Global Business Development Division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) announced that Raven Space Systems (Raven), a 3D printing company that specializes in aerospace-grade composites, has selected Broomfield, Colorado, for its headquarters and manufacturing facility.
